The Carey Holiday Homes - Harvey Park, Denver, Colorado Mid-Century Modern
The Carey Holiday Homes exist in random pockets within Harvey Park, so you have to know where to find them! Built in 1954-1955, there are original models off of Vrain and Utica between Jewell and Evans, as well as a pocket by Riviera Lake. The Executive Models, or phase II of building, is comprised of homes on Winona, Tennyson, Stuart Street, and Raleigh south of Riviera Lake. The executive models are typically a bit larger, many including basements.
The Carey Holiday Homes were mid-century modern homes sold by Carey Construction and designed by Baume & Polivnick (headed by architect Norton Polivnick who also designed some incredible mid-century modern homes in other neighborhoods such as Southern Hills / Wellshire.) These homes were the winner of a regional award by Parents’ Magazine in 1954 “Best Homes for Families with Children”. The models with basements, additional square footage, and storage space, are perfect for living patterns of people with a lot of items to stow away, or those who need additional room to spread out. Homes are configured in different directions on the lots - some of which have the clerestory windows to the front, some which have them to the side for additional privacy, and some homes are angled on the lots to allow for creative outdoor spaces in the side and back yards, and optimal light throughout the day. Most of these homes have at least 1 carport, some with 2, and others have been converted to garages in recent years.
These homes have brick exteriors and are known for being durable and well built.
