Hilltop has always been a highly coveted neighborhood in Denver. Many of the homes in this area are immaculate in size and sit on double or triple wide lots. The neighborhood is sought after for its fantastic elementary school, Carson, as well as its close proximity to the amenities of Cherry Creek. Cranmer Park is a vast open space where residents gather on sunny weekends to play in the outdoors. This central Denver neighborhood is bound by Colorado Boulevard to the West, Alameda to the South, and 6th Avenue to the north.
This area is named Hilltop because at one point Cranmer Park was the highest point in Denver County. Hilltop was annexed in 1893 and wasn’t built on until George Cranmer came along and built his 10K+ square foot Italian villa at 200 Cherry Street, by the park. The area later gained popularity in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. There are a diverse 22 different architectural styles represented in this neighborhood including Tudor, English and Norman Cottage, Mediterranean Revival, Georgian, Regency and Mid-Century Modern. Prehistoric camel bones were unearthed when homes were initially being built on this land.
The mid-century modern homes built in this neighborhood are grand and legendary when it comes to historic significance. Many were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright apprentices, or have extremely unique floor plans and architectural features. Mid-century modern homes are relatively abundant in this neighborhood, they just don’t come on the market all the time.
