Aspen, Colorado Historical Society Mid-Century Modern Walking Tour

Aspen West End - MidCentury Modern Walking Tour

Whether you’re an Aspen / Roaring Fork Valley local or just in town for a week visiting, The Aspen Historical Society hosts a fantastic weekly walking tour covering a lot of Aspen architectural history. It mostly talks about Aspen’s silver mining history leading into the mid-century and how minds like Herbert Bayer shaped this town, with the influence of both European Bauhaus modernism, mixed with American modernism, and how that came to be in the buildings we see today in Aspen.

The tour lasts about two hours from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Wednesday mornings and starts at the Red Brick Center for the Arts, makes its way through The West End featuring homes designed by local architects, and ends at the Aspen Institute. The tour is a walking tour, so be sure to bring water, wear comfy shoes and clothes, sun or rain protection, and be mindful about restroom breaks.

This tour mostly happens in the summer months when the weather is nice. Tickets must be purchased in advance through the Aspen Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds go to the Aspen Historical Society.
